The Pittsfield Family YMCA’s After School Program at Herberg and Reid Middle Schools seek energetic, organized individuals that are responsible, energetic and dependable with a strong interest in working with middle school-age students in sixth through eighth grade.  This is a homework help and fitness and sports based program. Candidates Major Duties:

  • Plan and implement homework assistance, supervise and coordinate sports games and activities.
  •  Act as both a supervisor and role model for the students in the program.
  • Develop and maintain an atmosphere of consistency and fairness in which both children and staff cooperate.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Discuss behavior problems and situations with supervisor.
  • Resolve conflict within your group while seeking assistance from other staff or supervisors when necessary.
  • Don’t forget to have FUN!!

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a strong background, or serious interest, in the field of middle school education and a true desire to act as a mentor to children.  Must be an effective communicator with children and adults, as well as demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, good judgment, and professionalism in all situations. All applicants must be CORI checked before being hired.

Qualified applicants will hold at least a high school diploma and must have prior experience working with school age children.

  •  Must be available Monday through Friday, from 2:30-5:30pm, plus able to attend one weekly staff meeting and occasional Saturday or weekday trainings.
